George Premac

March 10, 1932 — October 22, 2020

St. Louis, Missouri

George Premac, 88, passed away October 22, 2020 in Lone Tree, Colorado.  He was born March 10, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of four children.  Father was Peter Anton Premac and mother Alvena J. Allen Premac.

During his youth, Mr. Premac was placed in foster homes in Alabama and Missouri.  He was educated in Warren and Montgomery County schools in Missouri.  Mr. Premac was christened and joined the Zion Methodist Church, near Truxton, MO, in 1946.  Later he transferred his membership to Orange Cumberland Presbyterian Church, near Aurora, MO.

Mr. Premac was a career soldier.  He served from 1948 until 1972.  He drove a tank until age 18, then became a medic when able to enlist legitimately as an adult.  Mr. Premac was deployed to Viet Nam on three occasions in the late 1960s, and early 1970s.  He served his country with distinction, earning numerous Army citations, including the Bronze Star for valor.

Mr. Premac worked for School District 11 in Colorado Springs, CO, following his military retirement.  He moved to Phoenix in 1985, then settled in Denver 1990.

George and Gertrud Barbara Jager were married May 18, 1957, in Kitzingen, Germany.  The couple moved often in the military, including three separate tours of Germany.  He also was stationed in Seattle and El Paso, prior to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs.

George and Gertrud were married for 60 years, until her passing February 23, 2018.  George is survived by daughter Twila Dileen Treece, Aurora MO, son Derek Crist Premac (wife Denise) Centennial CO, and son John Bernhard H. Premac (wife Heather) Coto de Caza CA.

Seven grandchildren: Christopher Scott Treece (wife Lisa) Aurora MO;  Kyle Crawley (wife Erin), Carbondale CO;  Chris Premac, Coto de Caza CA;  First Lieutenant Mitchell Premac USMC, Camp Pendleton CA;  Dominique Premac, Atlanta;  Katie Premac, Coto de Caza CA;  US Army Specialist Jeremy Premac, Coto de Caza CA.

Five great grandchildren: Lucas Premac, Genevieve Crawley, Sullivan Crawley, Zoe Treece, and Cason Treece.

George enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and collected rocks.  He took cactus with him from El Paso to Germany, then Colorado Springs and the following moves.  In all likelihood, his cactus garden in Germany was the only one of its kind in the country.  He loved the German countryside.  Sundays were typically a family outing to a castle.  We spent hours walking through German forests.

George also liked the Mexican culture he became familiar with from time in El Paso, and New Mexico earlier in his career.  The music, southwestern color palette, and artwork all interested him.  He went to far as to buy his sehr auf Deutsch bride a floral-embroidered Mexican dress.

His musical interests included traditional gospel, polka, waltz, choir, country, and Mexican.  Some of his favorite artists included the Carter Family, Johnny Cash, and Anne Murray.  Favorite television show was Carol Burnett.

A funeral service for Mr. Premac will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave.  Military burial at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver to follow.
