George H. Matschke

George Herman Matschke was born on July 4, 1933 in Morristown, New Jersey, raised in Denville, New Jersey, and died On April 28, 2026 at the Monarch Memory Care at the Village at Belmar Lakewood, Colorado.  He was 92 years old and ready to meet his Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Wilhelm Matschke and Martha Marie Manns, and his brother, Robert Conrad Matschke.  Both of his parents were born in Germany.  He is survived by his wife, Lesley, his daughters Marti Poole (Bill) and Karen Buerger (Steve), and three grandchildren, Olivia Laurel Poole, Heather Gale Witucky, and Elijah George Buerger.

George earned a BA and Doctorate from the University of Tennessee, as well as a Master's Degree from Auburn University.  He served in the United Sates Army from 1956-1958.  He was a wildlife research biologist.  He worked for the state of Kentucky before moving to Denver to work at the Federal Center with the National Wildlife Research Center.  The NWRC moved to Fort Collins where, after four years, he retired.  

Celebration of Life services will be held May 19th at Horan & McConaty's Chapel at 1:00PM, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood with Graveside Services following at Fort Logan Cemetery.  These will then be followed by a Reception at Phillips UMC, 1450 South Pierce, Lakewood.
