George Gordon Latham-Durrant died at home on the 10th January 2023 at the wonderful age of 89. He was born in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire, England on the 11th April 1933. After graduating from Cheadle Hulme Grammar School, he went on to gain mechanical engineering qualifications.
After serving in the Royal Air Force, he went to work at his Father’s company, G Durrant & Sons, designing specialist machinery for the textile industry, he travelled worldwide to supervise and commission them. Later he became the Managing Director. He met his wife, Freddie, in Stockport, Cheshire, they were married two years later in Marple Bridge, Cheshire.
Gordon was a keen cyclist, squash, and cricket player, he also enjoyed watching cricket at the Oval Ground’s test matches. He enjoyed entering championship dog shows with the family’s Dalmatians, during the summer these became weekend trips with the caravan. He loved to travel and spent many happy times on holiday with the family in beautiful destinations around the globe.
In 2002 he moved with Freddie to Denver, Colorado, where she became the Pastor of a Methodist Church, there he volunteered and used his creative gifts for church projects. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and four grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Journey of Faith UMC, 1200 El Paso Blvd, Denver at 11.00 am on Thursday 26th January 2023 followed by refreshments.
