George Joseph Granato

March 30, 1925 — May 10, 2016

George Joseph Granato passed away at age 91, May 10, 2016. He was born on March 30, 1925 to John and Catherine (Marchio) Granato in Denver, Colorado. George is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Julia A. (Palermo) Granato, their two daughters Georgetta (Granato) Makelky and her husband Pete, and Patricia J. (Granato) Fischer and her husband John. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristen Pfeiffenberger and her husband Brian, Daniel Makelky and his wife Kati, Ryan Makelky and his wife Laura, Jessica Fischer, Shannon McNicholas and her husband Jason; great grandchildren Molly, Khloe, Braydon, Ella, and Sofia who is due in June, and two step-great grandchildren, Cameron and Maddi. George was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, John, Anthony and Salvatore. George was a veteran of the United States Army and fought in WWII. After he came home from the war, he began working for the Government and went on to be a Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service for 35 years where he ultimately specialized in Exempt Organizations. When George retired in 1980 as an Enrolled Agent from the Government, he started his own tax practice, Granato & Associates, Inc. He was then joined in practice by his daughter Patricia Fischer and granddaughter Shannon McNicholas. He loved his work and devoted everything into the business and worked until he was age 89. George lived a long life as a loving, kind, intelligent, distinguished and thoughtful man. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and all who came to know what a wonderful man he was. Recitation of the Rosary will be Monday, May 16th, 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3549 Navajo Street. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 17th, 10:00, also at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery Reception to follow at Crown Hill Reception Center. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3549 Navajo Street, Denver, 80211.
