George Eakins

September 2, 1928 — December 30, 2020

George Henry Eakins, 92, died of natural causes in Aurora, Colorado on December 30, 2020.

Born in Denver to George Henry Eakins, Sr., and Clara Ellen Taylor on September 2, 1928, George attended the Lincoln Elementary School during which time he worked as a delivery boy for the Saturday Evening Post and as a paperboy for the Denver Post. While at South High School, from which he graduated in 1946, he worked at Montgomery Wards and the Gates Rubber Company.

Post high school, George joined the U.S. Army, and was immediately deployed to Korea where he became an M.P. and a Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1948. With the help of the G.I. Bill, he enrolled at the University of Denver and completed his bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1951. He was awarded a scholarship to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he completed his M.B.A. in Finance and Economics in 1952.

Upon returning to Denver, George Eakins worked at Schwayder Brothers, Shell Oil, and Autrey Brothers before joining Broyles, Allebaugh and Davis in 1966. He retired as President of Broyles, Allebaugh and Davis in 1991.

George enjoyed cars, boats, and airplanes. He pursued his private pilot’s license and flew for several years with the Eagles Flyers Club. One of his greatest joys was driving speedboats on Grand Lake. He loved the mountains as much as he loved the Broncos. George Eakins was a proud Coloradoan.

George is survived by Joan Owens Eakins, his wife of forty-one years, and stepchildren Jana Cole [Paul], Christopher Moulton [Carole], and Ann Robertson-Prince [Chris]. George is survived by step-grandchildren Jennifer, Nickolas, Jonathan, Melissa, Jacqueline, Caitlin, and Ryker, and step-great-grandchildren, Summer, Emma, and Dominic.

George is also survived by his first wife, Joyce Tannlund, their children Pamela and Richard, their grandchildren Katherine Stuart and Christopher Taylor, and great-grandsons James and William.

He will also be missed by his brother John (Jack) Eakins, Jack’s wife Patricia (Pat), and nephew and nieces Mark, Lisa, and Teresa.

George will be remembered best for his work ethic and his love of family and nature.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
