Gary Lee Walters 75 of Thornton, Colorado passed peacefully at St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster, Colorado on July 26.2025. Gary was surrounded by loved ones to help him with his journey home.
Gary was born in Riverton, Wyoming on May 1, 1950, to Robert Henry “Lefty” and Alma Walters. The family then moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1961. Gary was busy in his younger years fishing, hunting and playing sports. When in high school Gary played football for Kelly Walsh where he made the first touchdown for the new school. After graduating, Gary went to the University of Wyoming where he played football all four years and graduated with a bachelors in Range Ecology and Watershed Management. After college, he walked on with the New Orleans Saints and played for one year. Gary returned to Casper and was a ranch hand for a while. He then started working for Halliburton Energy Services for the next 42 years. At the beginning of his career, he met his beloved wife Connie (Bushmaker) Walters at his sister’s home while she was babysitting, it was love at first sight. On July 30, 1977, they were married. In February of 1978 their son Craig was born and in November of 1979 their daughter Mindy was born. During his career Gary and his family moved to Farmington, New Mexico, Rock Springs, Wyoming and finally ending up in Thornton, Colorado. In his free time Gary built and flew remote-controlled model airplanes, fished, and hunted big game. Gary also loved spending time with his grandkids and going to their baseball and softball games. He was very proud of each of them.
Gary had a rough and tough exterior, but he was a big teddy bear! He was one of the kindest and most caring men you could come across with a mix of that sarcasm you couldn’t forget!
Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years Connie. His son Craig Walters of Casper, Wyoming. Mindy Walters (Marshall) of Aurora, Colorado. His grandkids Hunter, Brennen and Naomi Martinez, many brothers and sisters in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
