Garold William Cecil

Garold William “Gary” Cecil, 83, passed away on August 4, 2026, in Denver, Colorado.

Gary was born on September 7, 1942, in Bend, Oregon, and was a longtime resident of Central Oregon until moving two years ago to Denver, CO.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Greta Ann Skjersaa Cecil; his son, Robert Garold Cecil; and his brother, Robert R. “Bob” Cecil.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristine Cecil (Mike Cureton) of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter Lindsay McNelis (Ryan) and great granddaughters Charlotte and Frances McNelis; grandson Tyler Cureton (Lauren) and great grandchildren Mackenzie and Emmett Cureton; son Harold Olaf Cecil (Michelle Hanford) of Bend, Oregon; and grandchildren Blake Cecil and Maya Cecil; and his sister-in-law Sandy Cecil; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary retired from Pacific Power and Light after 36 years of service. He generously gave his time to his church, including volunteering to lead youth groups and camps. He also had a lifelong love of vintage cars and enjoyed sharing that passion with fellow enthusiasts at car club shows. An avid scuba diver, Gary especially treasured the many diving adventures he shared with Greta in Cozumel.

The final 10 years of Gary’s life were shaped by the lasting effects of a stroke. Throughout those years, his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ remained a source of strength and comfort.

Gary will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his adventurous spirit, his service to others, and the enduring faith that guided him throughout his life. Those who loved him take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with Greta and Robert and at peace in the presence of the Lord he trusted so faithfully.

A private interment will be held at a future date at Deschutes Memorial Gardens in Bend, Oregon.
