Gale Patrick Frierson was born in Florida on August 9,1936. He died in Denver on May 18, 2020 by natural causes.
As an adult he lived and worked much of his life in Colorado, where he also retired.
In his early years he taught German, French and English in high schools. Then he worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for hotels and motels. He went on to do similar work for convenience and grocery stores. He kept working into his eighties.
He was kind, intelligent and principled and would fight against injustice for example: for his “Mongolian son", Amarzaya, who he was very devoted to, in a U.S. student visa dispute (see the extensive feature story in Denver's WestWord newspaper 1/15/2004) and for himself and others in an age and disability employment dispute.
In his later years he was a common fixture walking, often with his walker, around Uptown and Upper Downtown, where he lived. He became friends to executives and service folks alike in these Denver urban districts. In 2019 he went and stayed for a while with his Mongolian son and the son’s family in Alameda, California. His Denver residencies in later years included Cathedral Plaza and most recently Renaissance at Civic Center.
His friends will pause for a few minutes to remember Gale on July 30th, 2020 at 11:30 am at the Wells Fargo garden park on the 1700 block of Grant Street (at the corner of 18th Avenue) and all are welcomed to come. Contact Horan & McConaty for more information.
