Frederic Harold Mummert passed on February 1, 2026, at his home under hospice care with his wife Carol, by his side. Fred was born on February 19, 1939, to parents Harold LeRoy and Helen Mae (Dressler) Mummert. Fred’s sister, Janice, who was then 2 1/2 years old welcomed her baby brother and they remained friends throughout his lifetime.

Fred attended West York High School and was an athlete in several sports, played clarinet in the band/orchestra and graduated as class valedictorian in 1957. He chose Lehigh University, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of Chi Psi fraternity.

After graduating from Lehigh University in 1961, he joined General Electric where he wrote patents for everything from jet engines to dishwashers. While working full-time at GE he was admitted to GE’s Patent Lawyer Development Program and enrolled in Georgetown University Law School.

After graduating with a J.D. law degree from Georgetown University in 1965, he worked as a GE patent attorney, then he took the opportunity to work for the US Treasury Department where he oversaw failed San Francisco banks, before joining IBM.

Fred had a 28-year career with IBM where he supported a variety of clients. In 1967-69 he lived in Vienna, where he negotiated agreements in the Soviet block countries. He returned to the US living in California and then moved to Atlanta as Assistant Regional Counsel. Fred was known as a "clients lawyer”, as he approached his IBM work from a relationship perspective working to resolve business challenges.

Fred married Judy Clapp in 1966 and they welcomed two children: Eric and Hilary. Fred loved being a father and enjoyed teaching his children to snow ski, waterski, swim; he was a soccer coach and truly enjoyed being active in their lives. When Fred and Judy decided to go separate ways, he moved to Atlanta and was known as "Mr. Mom”.

Fred met Carol Manning in Atlanta in 1986, and they have been together for 40 years. Fred and Carol shared many passions: hiking, bicycling, being in nature, traveling, photography, music, skiing, learning Native American practice /ceremonies and being with friends. They viewed their relationship as “Partners in Life and Spirit”. They shared a lifetime of fascinating conversations and adventures.

Fred was adventuresome and active all his life: His love for snow skiing extended over 50 years (including helicopter skiing) and he was still skiing until he was 82. He loved sailing, ran a marathon, took gourmet cooking classes, and attended many musical performances. He traveled solo to Jerusalem, picking up hitchhiking Israeli soldiers traveling with their Uzi guns. He hiked four “14ers” in Colorado and he loved dogs, especially his labradors: Horace and Hector and Chauncey, his Golden Retriever.

Fred’s passion for life was evident by his warm and inviting smile and open communication. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. He connected easily with people, sharing stories and talking philosophy.

He is survived by his sister, Janice Reid, her three children: Alan, Fred, and David Reid; his son, Eric Mummert and his wife Lisa and two grandchildren Finn and Fiona; his daughter, Hilary (Connors) and her husband Eric Connors and his two grandchildren Reece and Tyler; and his wife, Carol Manning, now living within the Denver, Colorado area.
