Francis "Frank" Holt

Francis “Frank” Ralph Holt, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025 in Arvada, Colorado. Born on June 18, 1944 in Waterloo, Iowa to John M. Holt and Dorothea M. Steel, Frank lived a life filled with professional accomplishments and enriching personal experiences. At the age of 3, Frank accompanied his family to live in post-WWII Germany and Austria. He attended American schools on military bases in Frankfurt, Salzburg and Baumholder. Frank graduated from the American High School in Baumholder, Germany in 1962.

Frank attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1967 with Bachelor's Degrees in Physics and Applied Mathematics. Frank did post-graduate work at Austin Peay State University and the University of Colorado, studying Business Law, Economics, Philosophy and Applied Mathematics. After ROTC training, Frank was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the Army, and was based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He served in active duty from 1967 to 1969 and was honorably discharged with distinguished service commendations.

In 1990, Frank co-authored the book, “Peacemaker” with his brother Robert Holt. The book explored the use of artificial intelligence in military defense many years before it became a familiar topic. Frank's professional life also included real estate investing and mortgage banking. He retired after a career with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Frank enjoyed years of membership in the Rocky Mountain Toastmasters as well as basketball and softball teams in Evergreen, CO. Frank played golf, tennis and skied for many years with his good friends. World travel always remained a big part of his life and he did his best to travel everywhere. With his camera always at hand, Frank took incredible photos from nearly every continent. His last three trips were to Antarctica, South America and Hawaii. His photos are an enduring testament to his love of history and travel.

Frank is survived by his wife, Laurie H. Lyckholm and two daughters, Jennifer A. (Andrew) Dickson and Christina C. (Brian) Miller. His life was also enriched by four grandchildren, Graham & Aiden Dickson and Lillian & Sierra Miller. Frank is also survived by his nephew, Johnny Holt and niece, Dori Keen. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, John and Robert Holt and nephew, Jason Holt.

A military committal service will be held at Fort Logan Cemetery on September 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM. A private reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) at 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Suite 105, Lilbum, GA 30047 or www.lbda.org/donate or the University of Colorado Alzheimer's and Cognition Center (CUACC) to help fund vital research into these devastating brain diseases.
