Floyd Russell Matthies

Floyd was born to Henry and Dora Matthies on August 4,1933 and passed peacefully on June 1, 2025 at Swedish Hospital. He was 91 years and 10 months old. His parents had 9 children, and he was a twin brother to Loyd.

Floyd and Loyd volunteered in the Army from 1953 to 1955 and Floyd was honorably discharged as a private in October of 1955. He worked at Rocky Flats as a Tool and Die Maker and Quality Control Inspector until he retired at age 59.

Floyd loved going to the auctions and finding all sorts of treasures from the past which included clocks and pocket watches. He still had his 1965 Ford truck he purchased new and used many times for family vacations. Floyd enjoyed going to his mountain property in South Park with family. He also enjoyed family cruises and sharing many memorable times together. Christmas 2024 was spent with 32 family members, 13 of which were great grandchildren under the age of 10.

Floyd and Sharlene attended First Christian Church of Englewood where they were both saved and baptized.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Stanley, Wayne (killed in the Battle of Normandy), Bryce, Bernard, Betty and Bonnie.

He is survived by his wife Sharlene (Russell) Matthies of 67 years (married in Orleans, Nebraska); his three children Todd (Jill) Matthies, Cindi (Michael) Hillman, Craig (Arla) Matthies; 8 grandchildren;14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Lynn (Lois) Matthies, and Loyd Matthies.

Services will be held at Horan & McConaty, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, Colorado 80227 on Monday, June 23, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the memorial service starting at noon. Lunch will be served followed by a military service at 3:30 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

The Pallbearers will be his grandsons - Josiah Matthies, Cameron Matthies, Tristan Matthies, Brody Matthies, Kirk Hillman, and Keaton Matthies.
