Florence Johnson

December 24, 1945 — April 4, 2023

Federal Heights, Colorado

Florence Lisa (Groussman) Johnson of Federal Heights, Colorado, died peacefully in her sleep April 4, 2023. She was 77.

A devoted wife, homemaker and mother, Lisa found no greater pleasure than being Nana to her five grandchildren.

She also was a talented pianist and organist, and earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Denver.

Lisa taught hundreds of people to play the piano over more than 50 years. By the end of her time teaching piano, she had instructed second and even third generations of students.

She also was the ultimate homemaker and seamstress, including making her own bread until the end.

But it was as a quilter that Lisa truly excelled, creating whimsical, intricate and delicate patterns she shared freely with family and friends. Later in life, she would enter her quilts in the Adams County Fair and would always win blue ribbons. Perhaps her most ambitious project was a king-sized quilt that was nearly 100% hand-stitched.

She was born Dec. 24, 1945, and moved Salt Lake City, Utah, as a young child. She graduated with the Olympia High School class of 1964, and went on to attend the University of Utah, where she met her future husband.

She married Earl Grey Johnson on June 17, 1967, and they raised three children. Lisa and Earl were married 51 years before he died Dec. 9, 2018. Lisa was devoted to Earl and cared for him in his final years as he suffered from progressive dementia.

Along with her immediate family, Lisa also loved and cherished her friends and “church family.” She never turned down a request to play the organ or piano for services, weddings, funerals and other events. She also found great satisfaction in cooking meals for others.

She is survived by her sons, Greg Johnson and Jay (Michelle) Johnson; daughter, Cynthia Johnson; grandsons, Zacary, Ashton and Anthony Johnson; granddaughters, Emily and Kelsey Johnson; brother, Dean (Maria) Groussman; sisters, Susan (Ramon) Winegar and Joan (Joseph) O’Flaherty; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Groussman Valle.

Lisa was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Earl Grey Johnson; daughter-in-law, Michelle Lynn Johnson; brother, Raymond Groussman; and parents, Raymond K. Groussman and Gene Estelle (Goetzman) Groussman.

A funeral service for friends and family begins at 10:30 a.m. April 15, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1951 Elmwood Lane, Westminster, CO 80221.
