Florence K. Crosby passed away on March 1, 2024 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado at age 90.
Florence Annette Kendrick was born on February 17, 1934 in Washington DC. She was forever known as Flo Anne. Her parents were Harold Clark Kendrick Sr. and Susan Elizabeth Kendrick. Flo Anne had an older brother, also Harold Clark, but known as Unk. Their father was in the Marines and in the Army and so they lived in several locations during their childhood. Flo Anne and Unk were the best of friends throughout their lives. In the last few months, they talked nightly reminiscing about their childhood.
Flo Anne met John Crosby in 1951 at Fort Bragg, N.C. where their fathers were both stationed. They married on August 20, 1954 and were married for 67 years until John’s death in 2022.
John was a career Army officer and Flo Anne was a proud Army wife. Together they had three children, David, Leslie and Loren. As a family, they were stationed on Army posts across the United States and in Germany. Flo Anne recently calculated that she and John lived in 24 different homes throughout their marriage. Flo Anne had an eye for decorating and would quickly transform every new house into a home. She was an avid antiquer and her house was filled with her found treasures.
Flo Anne and John made lifelong friends during John’s Army career and were often stationed again and again with friends from past assignments. In the last few months of her life, she often talked about their wonderful friends and shared memories of times together. Army life was a social one and Flo Anne enjoyed planning and hosting parties. She was a gracious host and loved entertaining. Flo Anne was an excellent cook and continued to find and try new recipes throughout her life.
Flo Anne and John traveled extensively together. In addition, Flo Anne often traveled with other Army wives. After retirement from the Army, they built two homes, one in Florida, which was their primary home, and a cabin in the mountains in Colorado. They went on several trips with friends and with her brother, Unk and his wife, Bibbie. The two couples were the best of friends and their families spent many happy summers together at the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Flo Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law, BJ Crosby and by her beloved husband, John. She is survived by her children, David, Leslie Hansen (Chuck) and Loren Arnold (John); by her grandsons, Zachary Hansen (Kristen), Daniel Hansen, and Wyatt Hansen; by her great granddaughter, Eliza Loren Hansen; by her brother Unk Kendrick; and by her dear nieces and nephews, Susan, Jennifer, Wade, Georgia, Jeff and John; and, by her cousins, Steve, Ethel, Laney, David, Susan Lee and Bob.
When she lost her husband, John, Flo Anne told her children several times, that she had no regrets as she and John had had a wonderful life together and did everything they wanted.
