Henry was born on October 5th, 1939, in Cavite City, Philippines. Orphaned at a very young age, he was raised by his older siblings and aunts, all strong women who instilled in him a strong work ethic, entrepreneurship, and creativity. Henry met Stella when they were both quite young and got married at 16. They had eight children and lived a storied life, filled with ups and downs. And after almost 70 years of marriage, they still make each other laugh and tell each other “I love you” almost every day. Henry tried many professions in order to give his family a comfortable life. He worked at San Beda College, the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, and many others but his true love was antiques. He was a talented painter, guitarist, singer, avid reader and curator of art. He can look at an object or painting and draw so much inspiration that he can either replicate or make it better. Over fifteen years ago, he picked up painting again; it gave him and those lucky enough to be gifted with one of his artworks, so much joy.
In the early 80’s, he brought his family to Denver, Colorado, where most remain today. He opened an antique store on Alameda Avenue and continued his passion for artful things. After a few years, the family moved to Long Beach, California but the pull of the mountains and a simpler life was too strong and soon the family moved back to Denver, where he and Stella remained.
Henry was larger than life. He had a presence. Those are words said about him by many. It’s hard not to like him. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. You’d be hard pressed to find a photo of Henry where he’s not smiling or laughing. And that’s how he’ll always be remembered, with a beautiful smile on his face.
Henry is survived by his wife, Stella; daughters, Melissa (Dan) and Marissa (Dave); sons Mike (Carmen), Elmo (Rossane) and Rick (Lindsey); grandchildren, Angela, Michael, Sandy, Ryan, Mick, Michael Angelo, Michael Noel, Rosselle, Nene, Stella, Isabel, Bella, Lexi, Cece, Mikey G, Dave, Gabby, Shawn, and many great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sons, Freddie, Larry and Alex.
