Ellen Violet Popenuik

With hearts full of love and sadness, we relay the passing of Ellen Violet Popenuik of Westminster, Colorado. She departed peacefully the afternoon of August 7, 2025 at the age of 85, with her beloved older sister Margaret by her side.

Born on June 18, 1940 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, to Clara and William Popenuik, Ellen enjoyed playing with the animals on the family farm as a young girl. She attended the University of British Columbia to become an elementary school teacher and was dedicated to instilling the love of reading into all her pupils. She later joined her parents in operating several family owned restaurants, eventually partnering with her older sister in owning and operating a series of small restaurants in the Denver metro area.

In her youth, Ellen enjoyed playing badminton, and throughout her life she loved crossword puzzles, animals, and flowers.

She is survived by her older sister Margaret, a nephew, two nieces, seven great-nephews and -nieces, and a great-great-nephew and niece. She is preceded in death by her parents.
