Elizabeth (Beth) Hawley Waggoner passed away on May 21, 2025 at Swedish Memorial Center.
She was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on March 28, 1947 where her parents were living following WWII. Her father had joined the Naval reserves so at the beginning of the Korean War he was recalled into service and was stationed at the Federal Center in Lakewood, CO. Her parents fell in love with Colorado and decided to stay. They purchased a home in Denver where she grew up. She attended East High School and was looking forward to her 50th high school reunion this summer. In 1969, she graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a B.A. in English and History.
Following her graduation, she taught high school English in Denver. She later took a job at a travel agency, where she discovered her immense love of travel. She fell in love with the business and later began her own travel agency, Camelot Travel, in 1973. She named the agency after the musical "Camelot." As the President and Owner of Camelot Travel, she opened an additional agency, Detours, which specialized in travel to resort locations in Mexico. After several offers to purchase her business, in 1999 she sold both Camelot Travel and Detours after 26 years in the travel business. Beth went back to school to become a Certified Financial Planner and worked with Ameriprise Financial for ten years until her retirement.
Beth was talented in so many things. She loved to garden, knit, crochet, cook, play tennis, ski and play the piano. She always enjoyed learning new things, including yoga and Reiki. She had a love for cats and dogs and volunteered time and resources for the Denver Dumb Friends League. She primarily loved cats and she always had a cat in her house!
Beth leaves behind her sister, Sloan Jump, two daughters, Jennifer Ley and Emily Ley Palmieri, and five grandchildren, as well as numerous friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Virginia and Frank Hawley.
She will be missed.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 1:00 PM at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Rd, Centennial, CO. In lieu of flowers a donation to either the Humane Colorado (formerly the Denver Dumb Friends League ) or the Denver Botanic Gardens would be appreciated.
