Elizabeth “Betty” Kummer, 85, of Littleton, Colorado. Her family will be hosting a celebration of life at her daughter’s home in Littleton.
Betty was born at home on July 9, 1940, at 40 Brown Street, Carluke, Scotland. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Jane and John Murie Frame. Betty was the third child of four children born to John and Elizabeth. She is preceded in death by her two older brothers, Ian and Edwin Frame, and is survived by her younger sister, Christine Hollywood. Betty started school at The Wee School in Carluke until she was 11, then attended Carluke Higher Grade until the age of 16 and finished her schooling at Wishaw High School. Betty continued her education in General Nursing at Law Hospital and did maternity at Rottenrow Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland. After completing the General Nursing program at the age of 23, Betty left with three of her girlfriends and set out on an adventure to the Big Apple, New York City! (1963)
New York brought a lot of excitement and defined what would become her life in the United States of America.
Betty, with her girlfriends, was out at a dance hall. Her girlfriends wanted to call it a night, but Betty still wanted to party. Her girlfriends proceeded to head home for the night, and fate would introduce Betty to the love of her life, Frank Anton Kummer. Frank and Betty married in New Rochelle, New York, on March 12, 1966, at a small ceremony with family and close friends and were married for 59 years. Then, just a few years later, they welcomed their son, Allen Frank Kummer, on October 20, 1968. The new family moved from New York City to Danbury, Connecticut. Here the family grew with the addition of their daughter, Jane Elizabeth Kummer, just two short years later on January 30, 1971. The family then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for a short few years and then one more time, where they ended up settling in their home state of beautiful Colorado. Betty started her nursing career at Denver General as an ER nurse. Helping people was always in her blood, she held multiple nursing jobs throughout her life but finished her career at Rose Hospital on the Heart Team. Betty gained many friendships that remained strong throughout her life. She had a contagious smile and always knew how to make others laugh. In her off time, Betty enjoyed watching tennis, ice skating, and gymnastics along with being the biggest supporter of her children. As life moved along, Betty retired from her career as a nurse and took on a new role as “Gran” to her four grandchildren.
Never one to sit down long enough to watch her beloved Broncos on television, she loved listening to the games on her Walkman while cleaning her home. Frank’s job allowed Betty to find the love for Hawaii and the beach. She would find her perfect spot under a palm tree and read her book after she spent her day bodysurfing the waves. While Betty was not one for outside yard work, she did enjoy the outdoors. Some of her favorite times were spent camping with family and girlfriends. Betty had a competitive streak which came out in her playing racquetball. Most men were timid to play Betty, as she was known for her fierce ass whoopings! Some went as far as to call her a Racquetball Nut! She also was quite the card shark when she would play bridge. Whether Betty was playing racquetball or a friendly game of Go Fish or the board game of Parcheesi with her children, she showed no mercy. She was out to win. Betty was a WINNER IN LIFE!
Betty passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025. She is survived by her husband Frank Kummer, and two children, son Allen Kummer (Deneen), and daughter Jane Cotton (Darrel), and her four grandchildren Kirsten Cordova (Rey), Zarek Kummer (Kaylee), Seth Ozaki, and Merrie Kummer.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to The American Alzheimer’s Association. Jane and Kirsten do an annual fundraiser and ride to support this association and their research. Please follow the links below to donate.
