Elizabeth M. (Betty) Bergeron, age 73, passed away peacefully at her home in Aurora, Colorado, on October 24, 2025.
Born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire, Betty was the daughter of Richard L. and Mary P. Bergeron. She is survived by her brother, Dick Bergeron, of Bulls Gap, TN; her sisters, Anne (Rick) Traylor of Goodview, VA, and Elaine (Terry) Porter of Rohnert Park, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Allan Bergeron, of Denver, CO, and her sister, Mary (Patrick) Mernah, of Aurora, CO.
Betty graduated from Immaculata High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Plymouth State College, followed by a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Literacy from Lesley College.
A lifelong educator, Betty taught second grade at St. Joseph School in Keene, NH, for 15 years before moving to Denver in 1994. She continued teaching second grade at Gust Elementary School until her retirement in 2014. She often joked that she “spent half her life in second grade.” Her greatest legacy, however, lives on in the many former students, parents, and colleagues who remained in touch with her through the years.
Affectionately known as “The Cookie Lady,” Betty was famous for her delicious homemade cookies, which she loved to share with friends and neighbors and sell at local craft fairs. She enjoyed attending plays at the Buell Theatre, spending time with her beloved Book Club, and reading—always with another good story waiting on her nightstand.
After retiring, Betty moved to the Heather Gardens community, where she quickly became an active and caring neighbor. As the Area Representative for Building 236, she embraced her role wholeheartedly, forming meaningful friendships and lending a helping hand wherever it was needed.
