Edward " Joe " Johnson

Edward “Joe” Johnson was born July 31, 1942 in DuQuoin, Illinois to William and Marjorie Johnson. He died March 26, 2023 at the age of 80 years. Joe passed away at his home in Denver, Colorado with his wife of 37 years, Margy at his side. For the past few years, Joe has battled severe lung and heart problems.

Joe worked as a clinical social worker for almost 50 years. As an LCSW and CACIII he provided drug and alcohol addiction treatment and mental health counseling in St Louis, Missouri, Alton, Illinois and Denver, Colorado.

Joe married Margaret Jensen on August 24, 1985 in Lakewood, Colorado. He has two children from his first marriage to Joyce Vandegrift in St Louis, Missouri.

Joe was active in greyhound adoption. He and his wife adopted a total of 10 retired racing greyhounds. Many hours were spent fostering dogs and educating the public about greyhounds.

Joe is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Amy Beth Johnson (Eric Marabel) and Son Michael J Johnson, Joe’s sister Polly Wagner (Gerald Wagner). Joe leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Andrea Johnson (Edward Pacheco). Mychael Anne Martinez and Kenada Marabel and 4 great grandchildren. Joe is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Joe is predeceased by his parents Marjorie and William Johnson and his ex-wife Joyce Johnson.

A celebration of life is TBD.
