MSgt Edward James Burns, Jr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts raised in Roxbury, MA to Edward James Burns, Sr. and Sarah Freeman Burns. He attended Boston Public Schools and received his GED after he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. While in the Air Force he met Irma Jackson. They were married 19 April 1958. Eddie’s position in the Air Force was Security Police Specialist. Eddie rose thru AF ranks to E-7 Master Sargent, he served in Japan, Korea and Vietnam as well as tours of duty at Andrews AFB, Maryland and Lowry AFB, Denver, Colorado. While enlisted Eddie, completed multiple courses thru Air University receiving multiple awards and honors while enlisted. One special award came from General Bernard A. Schriever, USAF for Meritorious Service 1962 to 1966. This accomplishment was a very high honor from a highly respected General in the United States Air Force. Eddie retired honorably from the Air Force in 1974 while at Lowry AFB, Colorado. Eddie then took a position as Federal Police Officer at the US Mint Denver, Colorado. Again, Eddie’s service to the US Mint didn’t go un-notice receiving Outstanding Performance Oct 1990 given by Superintendent of the US Mint. Eddie retired in 1995 after 20 years of dedicated Government Service.
Eddie is survived by wife Irma of Nevada, son Ronald Edward Burns and wife Karen Burns of Nevada, daughter-in-law Kerrie McLean Burns of Colorado, granddaughters Ravyn Burns of Oklahoma and Taylor Burns of Colorado. He is preceded in death by son Phillip, 1965-2019 and his own brother Louis Henry Burns 1937 - 2018.
Eddie had relatives and friends in Boston. As well as Irma’s Friends and relatives in the Washington DC, Maryland, Virgina.
Eddie was absolutely overjoyed to have granddaughters in Sep 2000, his time by choice was spent helping them thru their growing years, going to school functions, attending sporting events to cheer them on. He was very emotional and filled with great pride when they both graduated from Collage with their Bachelor degrees.
Eddie enjoyed working with crafts involving leather works; he made multiple items for family and friends. Eddie was also a very accomplished model builder, mostly aircraft, boats, space vehicles and trains. The basement of their home displayed many of his completed projects.
Eddie and his granddaughters help with a very large-format /small scale rail road train system he setup in the basement.
Eddie also loved watching sports including NASCAR, football and basketball. He was an avid collector of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. collectables as well as Denver Broncos and Boston Celtics memorabilia.
Eddie will be missed by family and friends. His wit and the stories and love for family and life will be forever engraved on our hearts.
