Edward Louis Brockmeier, age 90, passed from this life peacefully at his home on September 8, 2022.
Ed was born on January 16, 1932 in Freeport, Illinois, but grew up in Rockford, IL where he was a standout basketball player. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in economics.
After his service in the army in US Army Alaska (USARAL) during the Korean Conflict 1956, he married the love of his life, Lois Ellen Johnson at St John’s United Church of Christ in Granite City, Illinois. Ed and Lois settled in the Chicago area where Ed worked briefly for General Motors before becoming one of the first computer programmers at what was then Western Electric Company. In 1968 he was transferred to their new Colorado location, and he retired there after a long and productive career.
Ed and Lois (d. 2014) had two sons, Karl (d. 2018) and Mark. A family man through and through, Ed gave his family many adventures through their weekends and holidays in a pop-up camper. Hiking, fishing, and cooking German sausage were Ed’s passions when not watching the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.
Ed is survived by Mark and his wife Kate of Windham, NH; his daughter-in-law Sandy Brockmeier, and grandsons Karl and Eric, all of Lone Tree, CO.
