Duane Charles Knight, Sr.

Duane Charles Knight, Sr., 92, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, in Westminster, CO, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his children, Duane Knight, Jr. (Susie), MarySusan Braud (Clarence), Sheila Knight-Fields (William), Victoria Knight-Allen (Randy); his grandchildren, Zachary, Maddisen, Gabrielle, Kathryn, Alexandra, Jacob, and Nicole; and his great-grandchildren, Vincent and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his wife Regina, grandson Vincent, and his siblings, Shirley Mallory and Gerald Knight, II.

Duane was born in Fremont, Ohio, in 1933 to Gerald M. Knight and Sarah (Fiscus). His family moved to Denver in 1935, and his father eventually started a used car sales business at Broadway and Warren Street in Denver; the “knight” sign is still visible today. Duane went to St. Louis Elementary School, St. Joseph’s High School, and graduated from Regis University, where he majored in Business Administration. He joined the Army in 1956, attended Army Intelligence and Military Police School, and worked as a Special Agent of the Counterintelligence Corps. He met the love of his life, Regina, at a Christmas door decorating party while she was working for the Department of the Army in Kaiserslautern, Germany. They married in 1960 in Baltimore and settled in Colorado Springs, where Duane worked for The Associates. They moved to Fort Collins in 1961, where Duane began working for Poudre Valley National Bank (which later became United Bank) as a loan officer. During this time, he was flown to New York, where he filmed a television commercial for United Bank, which, unfortunately, never aired. The family relocated to Arvada in 1976, when Duane began working at United Bank of Broomfield. He retired from First Federal Savings in 1995. Over the years, Duane enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, softball, golf, woodworking, reading, and traveling the world with Regina. He was a member of the Optimist Club and the Knights of Columbus, traveled to Mexico to help build houses with his church, and was a Reader and Eucharistic Minister. He deeply loved family and friends, and, although frugal, was incredibly generous. He was humble, quick with a quip, with a wry sense of humor, and always had an interesting story from his childhood to share. He was loved by family and friends alike and will be greatly missed.

A vigil and rosary will take place on Thursday, October 1st at 5:30 pm followed by a funeral Mass on Friday, October 2nd at 11:00 am; both will be held at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church in Arvada. Duane requested that you wear bright colors if you plan to attend!

Internment at Fort Logan National Cemetery will be held at a future date.
