Dr. William Clayton Dickey

Dr. William Clayton Dickey passed away on August 28, 2026 at age 85 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his wife, Karen, his three sons, Bill, Matthew, and Patrick, as well as his seven Grandchildren Ava, Jonathan, Natalie, Lydia, Kaitlyn, Madeline and Clay.

Dr. Dickey served variously as Chairman of the Board, Medical Director, and CEO of Belle Bonfils Memorial Blood Center for more than 20 years. During his tenure, he dedicated himself to ensuring that the people of Colorado had access to what he often described as an “inexhaustible blood supply,” helping safeguard the health and well-being of communities throughout the state.

Before joining the Blood Center, Dr. Dickey worked as a pathologist with Metropolitan Pathologists for over a decade. He began his career there after serving honorably for two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas and attained the rank of Major.

He graduated from University of Colorado Health Science Center with a Medical Doctorate in 1967.

Dr Dickey was born in Great Bend, KS, to William Oliver Dickey, DDS and Lucile Lynch Dickey. He moved to Colorado with his family in the 1950s.

Bill will be missed by all members of his family and the countless patients whose lives he has touched across the region for the last 60 years.
