Douglas McClellan Picard

Jun 25, 1950 — Oct 8, 2026

Douglas McClellan Picard, age 76, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

Originally from Athens, Ohio, where his parents were prominent faculty members at Ohio University. Doug earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. His journey took him from Ohio to Chicago and eventually to Colorado, where his aunt and uncle’s family, the Robinsons, introduced him to the beauty of the mountains and helped inspire his lifelong love of the outdoors.

Doug built a successful career as a consultant and project manager in the software industry, working with companies including Arthur Andersen, JD Edwards, and NetSuite. He took great pride in his work, but his greatest motivation was always his family. Providing for those he loved was deeply important to him, and he worked hard to ensure Randa and their family had a sense of security and stability.

Doug and Randa first met while attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, but it wasn’t until much later in life that they reconnected through mutual fraternity friends. With Doug living in Denver and Randa in Arizona, they would meet in the Telluride area to spend time together. Their shared Miami roots eventually made them what the university affectionately calls a “Miami Merger.”

Doug had a lifelong love of the outdoors, especially camping, backpacking, four-wheeling, and skiing at Copper Mountain. He was also a devoted Denver Broncos fan and season ticket holder for more than 50 years. Just as meaningful to him was cheering on his own sons: he loved watching Chad play tennis and Tyler play soccer.

Above all, Doug was devoted to his family. He treasured his role as a grandfather to Wyatt and Charlie and shared a special bond with Wyatt, who affectionately called him “Paga.”

Doug is survived by his wife, Randa Picard; his sons, Chad Picard of the Front Range in Colorado and Tyler Picard and his wife, Brittany, of southwest Colorado; and his two grandsons, Wyatt and Charlie.
