Douglas Barry Anderson, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, at St. Anthony Hospital in Westminster, Colorado, just days before his 69th birthday. Born in Denver, Colorado, on September 28, 1955, Doug lived a life defined by compassion, charisma, leadership, and unwavering optimism. His loyalty and sense of humor brightened the lives of everyone who knew him.
Doug made friends wherever he went. He most enjoyed sitting with friends at Starbucks, savoring his 'venti-skim-latte-with-two-extra-shots', or out at a favorite sports bar, cheering on the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, or college football. Doug's infectious energy and love for life made him the kind of person others naturally gravitated toward, and he cherished these moments of connection.
Doug's educational journey began at Holy Trinity Catholic School, where he served as an altar boy. He later attended Holy Family Catholic School before moving on to Northglenn High School, where he excelled as an athlete. Doug continued his studies at Colorado State University, earning a bachelor's degree in journalism.
He went on to become the Founder and President of Cornerstone Mortgage in Denver, leaving an indelible mark in the mortgage industry. He was the President of the Colorado Association of Mortgage Brokers (CAMB), and for the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB), he served as legislative Vice President and chaired several committees including the annual conference. His leadership continued as the Regional Director of Countrywide Financial and as a real estate broker for Resident Realty, where his passion for helping others achieve their dreams of homeownership was evident.
Doug's zest for life extended far beyond his career. He gave his time generously as a President of the Leukemia Society; and patient ambassador and platelet donor at Children's Hospital Colorado. A marathon runner, skier, biker, home brewer, and traveler, Doug embraced every opportunity to enjoy life and make lasting memories with his family and friends.
A man of deep spirituality, Doug worshiped at Mile Hi Church in Lakewood, Colorado, where he found a spiritual home and served in various capacities, including singing in the choir. As a young man in Conifer, Colorado, Doug mentored teens through a local Christian community leadership program.
He is survived by his mother, Sara L. Anderson; his brother, Phil Anderson (Bonnie Jones); his sisters, Cyndi (Mike) Szabo, Alicia Anderson, and Megan Anderson (Lars Ankersen); his brother, Don Anderson (Katie McGrath); his son, Travis Anderson; and his grandchild, Amara Anderson, and many nieces and nephews, along with a host of dear friends including Lynette and Jeff Miller, Melinda Anderson, Frank Bianco, Tim Hickey, Mark Schmidt, Terry Guice, Wells Knapp, and a host of many, many close friends. He was predeceased by his father, Donald J. Anderson, and his grandson, Sean Anderson.
Memorial services will be held privately for the family. In honor of Doug, we will continue his tradition of gathering for Christmas Scotch this year, giving friends a chance to come together and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doug's memory to the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation, a cause close to his heart.
Doug will be remembered for his compassionate heart, his joyful spirit, and his boundless optimism. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the love he shared.
