Donna Rae McKenna, age 85, passed away at Swedish Medical Center on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018 from an apparent fall in her home that led to a traumatic brain injury.
She was born on September 8th, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska. On June 6th, 1954, she married SSGT Walter ""Lee"" McKenna and soon moved to Baltimore, MD. A short time later they moved to the Denver area, where she resided until she passed. Donna worked in many different fields over her lifetime including being the home maker after her two sons were born. After her sons were old enough to venture out on their own, and her beloved Lee had passed, her most passionate position was as a teacher's assistant at Genesis pre-school for more than 10 years. Donna took passion in becoming a member of card/ Bunko groups, a women's philanthropic sorority group, and her church; St. Andrews Presbyterian.
Donna is survived by her two sons; Matthew Bryan McKenna (Judith McKenna) of Parachute, Bradley Jay McKenna (Tina McKenna) of Littleton, her five grandchildren; Shannon McKenna-Coleman, Cullen McKenna, Travis McKenna, Darien McKenna, Colton McKenna, her 2 great-grandchildren; Lyela and Roland, her 2 siblings; Wallace Merriam and Kay Lynn Ivey, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; Willard and Ester Merriam, husband; Walter Lee McKenna, brother; Donald Merriam, and grandson Bryan Samuel McKenna.
A private family service will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Donna was a loving individual that always cherished her family, relationships, and friendships. May she rest eternally in peace.
