Donald Lee ""Punky"" Stern

Donald Lee ""Punky"" Stern, age 81, of Littleton, CO passed away July 28, 2016 in Littleton. Don was born on July 12, 1935 in Denver to Clarence & Elizabeth Stern. He was an avid fisherman, traveling to Sweden, Costa Rica, Alaska and various other locations to fish. Don also taught at North High School in Denver for 37 years, serving many of those as a baseball coach and coach for various other sports. He was inducted into the Coaching Hall of Fame and attended the College World Series two times with his team. He will also be remembered for his yearly appearance as Santa Claus for local kids. Don touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him. Don is preceded in death by his wife Sally Stern, and is survived by his three daughters, Debbie, Laurie, and Beth, as well as step-children Mary, Janet, and Ed. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. John's Cathedral (1350 Washington St., Denver, CO 80203). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Don ""Punky"" Stern Foundation so that students in need can receive assistance for sporting items throughout the school year.
