Donald F. Shephard

Donald F. Shephard June 8, 1918 – March 7, 2015 Don was born in Preston, Ontario, Canada to Fred and Lilly May Shephard. The family including sisters Ted and Sis and brother Bud lived in Goderich, Ontario for a few more years, moving permanently to St. Petersburg, Florida in the early 1920s. Don graduated from St. Petersburg High School and St. Petersburg Junior College. He worked in South Carolina, then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked in Dallas and Oklahoma City. He married Marjorie Duffy on July 31, 1949 in El Reno, Oklahoma. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to the Denver area. Don began his 55 year real estate career in Evergreen with the Davidson family 1951. He acquired the neighboring brokerage from Harry Rockey in 1955 and that became Shephard Realty. Don served as first president of Evergreen Board of Realtors, president of the JeffCo Insurance Association, and president of the Kiwanis Club of Evergreen. He served as a vestry member and chairman of the building committee (1964) for the Church of the Transfiguration. He was a board member of the Evergreen Conference; outdoor chairman for Boy Scout Troop 888; and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He actively served many other organizations and committees helping to make Evergreen the community it is today. Don enjoyed skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, and was still working until he was in his mid-80's. His grandchildren are his pride & joy. Don is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children Tim, Donna, Wayne, and Chris; daughters-in-law Carole and Christine; and grandchildren Courtney, Bridgett, Ryan, Kenyon, Becca and Gretchen. Don passed away at Life Care Center of Evergreen. The family expresses many thanks to the staffs of Life Care Center and Mount Evans Hospice, who provided exceptional care. A memorial service for Don will be held FRIDAY MARCH 13, 3 PM, @ THE CHURCH OF THE TRANSFIGURATION 27640 Hwy. 74 Evergreen, CO 80439.
