Donald William Hofsess

Donald William ""Bill"" Hofsess died peacefully on December 2, 2014. Born August 9, 1925 in El Dorado, Kansas, Bill graduated high school in Manhattan, Kansas before enlisting in the Army, 1943. He served as a 4th Division combat infantryman in Normandy and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. Bill graduated from Kansas State, then obtained his MD from Northwestern University. He moved to Denver for his internship and residency at Colorado General Hospital where he met Patricia Littell whom he married January 3, 1952. Dr. Hofsess was on the attending staff of many Denver hospitals, volunteer faculty at CU Medical School and served as President at St. Luke's in 1976. He published several scientific articles during his career. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he maintained memberships in the AMA; state and local medical societies; and the American Urological Association. A urologist in Denver for 35 years, Bill retired in 1990. Preceded in death by his wife, Patty, he is survived by his son, William of Denver; daughter, Lisa of Gypsum; as well as daughter, Holly, son-in-law, Denny; grandchildren, Riley, Schuyler and Koby Simonton of Eagle, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to Porter Hospice Foundation, 1391 Speer Boulevard, Suite 600, Denver, Colorado 80204. Memorial will be held Friday, December 12, 2014, 11:30 AM, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area ""B,"" 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado.
