Don, 78, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born in St. Cloud, MN to Lawrence and Mayme Gebhardt, the youngest of 4. He served in the US Army for 4 years after graduating from Cathedral High School in 1954. He began his telephone career as a lineman in St. Cloud when he met Louise Kirchner. They were married in 1960. Shortly thereafter they moved to Willmar, MN then were transferred to the Twin Cities. They ultimately moved to Denver, CO where he's been residing since 1980. He retired with AT&T in 1986; in 1992 he became the ""Phone Guy"" with the Denver Nuggets through the current season. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing Cribbage, fishing, hunting, coaching his children in various sports, and playing board games with his family. He was the beloved father of Ken (Anne), Chuck (Yelena), Jane, Rob (Jodi) and Jodi (Chris) Shonka; proud grandfather of Nathan, Elizabeth, Stas Poltavets, Tyler, Katie, Connor, Emily Shonka; great grandfather of Liam Pessein-Poltavets; brother of Bill (Carole) Gebhardt; brother-in-law of Shirley Gebhardt. Don was preceded in death by his wife Louise; sister Muriel Gans; and brother John. Visitation Sunday, May 3, 3-6 PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E Dartmouth Ave, Aurora; Funeral Mass Monday, May 4, 10 AM at Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 S Monaco Pkwy, Denver. He will be laid to rest at Ft Logan National Cemetery with services Tuesday, May 5, 10:30 AM, Staging Area B.
