Donald Keith Derks

Donald Keith Derks, 95, of Westminster, Colorado, entered his heavenly home on August 24, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born February 5, 1930, to Pearl (Haley) and Peter Wendell Derks, Keith was the youngest of six children and grew up with two brothers, Lynn and Darrell and three sisters, Madeline, Wanda, and Thelma, all of whom preceded him in death. After proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, Keith went on to graduate from Baptist Bible College with a degree in theology, answering a lifelong call to ministry. Over the years, he faithfully pastored churches in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, and Colorado, sharing the gospel with steadfast devotion and a pastor’s heart.

Keith married the love of his life, Martha Dean (Simpson), and together they built a life rooted in faith and family. They were blessed to share nearly 47 years of marriage. Keith was a proud and loving father to Lynn, Lisa (Kevin), Darren (deceased), and Sheresa (Josh), and a devoted stepfather to Julie (Brian), Chuck (Janet), and Kathy (Scotty). He is also survived by his former wife, June. Keith was a cherished grandfather to 15 grandkids - Darren Jr., Jennifer, Brittany, Chris, Josh, Rachel, Zach, David, John, Travis, Tim, Michael, Amber, Dusty, and Aaron, and a great-grandfather to 10 great-grandchildren - Genesis, Ethan, Ivy, Maya, Connor, Ellie-Jo, Zoey, Kaylee, Tyler, and Trisden. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Keith will be remembered for his unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and joyful presence. He loved southern gospel music, studying his Bible, and sharing his faith with others. He also found joy in life’s simple pleasures — a car ride on a sunny afternoon, a plate of Chinese food, sweets of any kind, and especially his beloved “Grandpa Cookies.” For the past decade, his birthday became a treasured family tradition, celebrated at his favorite Chinese restaurant with a room full of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When he could no longer make the trip, his family brought the feast to him, ensuring the celebration continued.

He also loved football — especially cheering for his Denver Broncos. Many cherished memories were made watching Broncos games together on Sunday afternoons after church, a tradition that blended his love of family, faith, and fun.

Keith had a wonderful sense of humor. He never had a mean word for anyone and was known for loving people unconditionally. His kindness and laughter left a mark on everyone who knew him.

Though his earthly journey has ended, Keith’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on through all who were blessed to know him.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Tri-City Baptist Church, 6953 W. 92nd Ln, Westminster, CO 80021 and will be livestreamed at https://tricitybaptist.org/auditorium.
