Donald John Beu Sr., writer and resident of Boulder, Colorado, passed away of natural causes on April 3rd, 2025, at the age of 65.
Don is survived by his children, Donald Jr. and Jennifer and two brothers, Randy Beu (Fiona) and Willard “Dieder” Beu, a brother-in-law and a niece and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Almarine Beu and older sister Margaret "Peggy" Jacks (née Beu).
Don was born in Boulder on October 3rd, 1959. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA with a focus on journalism, and welcomed his children into the world in 1986 and 1987, respectively.
Don was a loving father and avid sports writer. He enjoyed judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and long-distance running, and was a devoted student of theology and spirituality.
Don was very passionate about his interests; conquering marathons in Iowa winters, grappling with Brazilian jiu-jitsu legends, and covering notable athletic events in the press corps. He practiced his craft as a novelist, fostered a lifelong love of literature with his children, and supported their own athletic efforts with great enthusiasm.
He suffered a cerebral stroke in September 2017, and battled the side-effects in long-term care until he passed away. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
The family held a private celebration in his honor.
