Domingo P. Martinez

April 28, 1935 — September 16, 2024

Lakewood

Domingo P Martinez, 89, of Lakewood CO, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 16, 2024. He was born April 28, 1935 in La Junta, CO. Son of Gabrial and Simona Martinez.

Domingo is survived by his wife, Helen Martinez; his children Tina (Jerry) Jaramillo, Kathy (Thomas) Segura, Jerry (Judy) Martinez; his five grandchildren Thomas (Amy) Segura, Gabriel (Kristy) Jaramillo, Brittany (Aaron) Prince, Nicole (Landos) Jackson, and Chelsea Jaramillo;his ten great-grandchildren Brandon (Maria) Montoya, Brittany Montoya, Acelynn Jackson, Jazeah Segura, Aryanna Segura, Roman Jackson, Isaac Jaramillo, Reylando Jackson, Elijah Jaramillo, and Graciela Jaramillo; his two great-great-grandchildren Adrian and Armani Montoya.

Domingo was an amazing man who loved his family, loved golf, and was known as a Jack of All Trades. Domingo served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. During his service, he took pride in working as a Translator in the Battle of Iwo Jima and an Aircraft Crew Chief. One of Domingos' great stories is how he learned to fly a plane within a few short days. He made many great friendships with his fellow servicemen while teaching them how to inspect and service an airplane. Domingo met the love of his life Helen, at the age of fifteen. Domingo and Helen eloped on November 10th, 1956 and later married by the church in 1964. In 1960 he moved to Denver, CO with Helen and started their beloved family. Domingo was proud of his children Tina, Kathy, and Jerry. He would reflect and share fond stories about their long road trips in their camper. He said it didn’t matter where they went, he just enjoyed the drive and company. Throughout his life, Domingo found work across many trades, and happily settled working for the Colorado Department of Transportation. He was responsible for fabricating the various traffic signs. One sign in which his memory will live on, the “Welcome to Colorful Colorado” sign that lines our state border, was among those made by Domingo. In his pastime, he found joy as an avid golfer and humbly a quite good one at that. This has been repeatedly reaffirmed as his children and grandchildren have stepped up to the challenge but have been unsuccessful as Domingo remained unmatched in his adored game of golf. His love for football and the Denver Broncos was on par with his love of golf. As a season ticket holder and a dedicated Bronco fan, he would be found braving the weather with loved ones and later enjoying it in the comfort of his home with family when he could no longer attend. His legacy will live on through many of his family members and friends who wholeheartedly cherish the many memories that were made with him.
