Obituary

Dimitrios Andrianakos, affectionately known to family and friends as Dimitris, Jim, Jimmy, Jimmako, and Mitsos, passed away on September 23, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born in Pikerni, Greece, on April 27, 1955, to Evangelos and Anna Andrianakos, Dimitrios immigrated to the United States with his family in 1967. He carried with him a deep love for his Greek heritage, strong family values, and a work ethic that would define his life.

Dimitrios spent much of his career in the restaurant industry. Alongside his brothers George and John, he helped establish and operate several Denver-area establishments, including Sportsman's Inn, Border Restaurant and Bar, University Park Cafe, and Charlie Brown's Bar and Grill. Throughout the years, the brothers continued their business partnerships while maintaining an extraordinary bond rooted in loyalty, respect, and family.

He also enjoyed successful business ventures with his sisters, Sotiria and Dina. Together, the Andrianakos siblings built lasting partnerships founded on trust, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to one another. Their relationships were a reflection of the close-knit family values that remained at the center of Dimitrios' life.

On July 29, 1984, Dimitrios married Yanna Andrianakos, the love of his life. Together they built a family centered on faith, tradition, hard work, and unconditional love. The couple spent six years living in Greece before returning to Colorado, where they continued building businesses with their children, including Yanna's Cafe, Jimmy's Chalet, Stone Gate Cafe, and New Star Cafe.

Known for his creativity and determination, Dimitrios was a talented chef, artist, designer, and entrepreneur. He took pride in solving problems, working with his hands, and sharing what he knew with others. Friends and family often sought his advice, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Dimitrios was passionate about Greek history and culture. He enjoyed visiting museums and historical sites, studying figures such as Theodoros Kolokotronis, Alexander the Great, and King Leonidas, and passing his knowledge and pride in his heritage to his children and grandchildren.

Above all else, he was devoted to his family. He believed in the values of filotimo - honor, integrity, generosity, and duty toward others - and worked throughout his life to lead by example. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially during Sunday dinners and gatherings filled with food, laughter, and stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evangelos and Anna Andrianakos, his beloved niece, Cantherisa Andrianakos, and his son-in-law Niko.

Dimitrios is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Ioanna (Yanna) Andrianakos; his children Jason, Evan (Georgia), Anna, Gia, and George (Jordain); his ten grandchildren, Ioanna, Alexandra, Dimitri, Caterina, Ioanna, George, Melina, Dimitri, Olivia, and Christian; his siblings Sotiria (George), George (Rebecca), John (Jodi), and Dina (Bruce); his brother-in-law Stavros (Kamelia); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Dimitrios will be remembered for his generosity, resilience, unwavering devotion to family, and the example he set through his life. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the values he passed down, and the countless lives he touched.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Dimitrios Andrianakos will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Assumption of the Theotokos Metropolis Cathedral of Denver at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend. 4610 E Alameda Ave. Denver, CO 80246
