Diana Lynn Jones

March 6, 1962 — February 9, 2026

Thornton

Diana Lynn Jones, a beloved wife and sister, passed on February 9, 2026, in the night. She was a fighter who surmounted many health obstacles in her life, but for the last six years of her life, she faced the hardest: she lost her mobility. For a person who loved nature and walking, it became the most difficult health obstacle of all. Through this challenge, she was lovingly cared for by her family, but especially by her husband Lawrence (Larry) Jones.

Even though she was immobile, she didn’t lose her sense of humor, often joking with the many nurses and CNAs who saw her during those years. Earlier in her life, Diana herself had been a caregiver and CNA for many years, driving to people’s homes to provide support. She knew the importance of the work and received many thanks from her clients. She even helped her mother Carlyn during her mother’s final years. During Diana’s last three years, she remained at home, with her husband Larry becoming her primary caregiver. He said, “She was a fighter to the end.”

Diana loved the outdoors and nature and took many trips to the mountains during her life, especially to Morrison and Red Rocks, Pagosa Springs, and Estes Park. You would often find her hiking with her dogs (six of them over the years) on the hiking trails and to one of her favorites places, around Lake Estes. You would also see her and Larry many blocks from their house walking their dogs in Thornton. Her last dog Hollie was the puppy she picked out to be the companion to Larry’s dog Buddy. Yes, Buddy and Hollie. They were quite a pair. Buddy passed two years ago, but Hollie, now 13, keeps going.

Diana, a native Coloradan, was born March 6, 1962, to Frank Thomas (Tom) Sweeney and Carlyn Sweeney. They lived in Denver but soon moved to Conifer where one of Diana’s favorite pastimes growing up was riding the skidoo in the winter. She dearly loved her childhood dog Snowball and most of all her father Tom.

Conifer and Morrison, where Larry lived, were just a short distance apart on Highway 285, so Larry and Diana were destined to meet. After a blind date in March of 1983, they continued dating for a short time before Diana proposed to Larry. They were married in October of that year. She was a loving wife, and Larry was certainly a loving husband.

Both parents, Tom Sweeney and Carlyn Haze (Sweeney), preceded her in death. Diana is survived by her husband Larry and three sisters Carla Murdoch (husband Bruce), Debbie Carson (husband Bruce), and Carole Hart (husband Paul). She is also survived by her siblings’ many children and grandchildren. And, of course, Hollie.
