Devon Dikeou was born on September 30, 1963, in Denver, Colorado to John Panayes Dikeou of Denver, and Lucy Sharp Dikeou of Lexington, Kentucky. She attended Graland Country Day School through 9th grade and Kent Denver School for high school. She attended Brown University where she graduated with honors, and went to graduate school at the School of Visual Arts, in New York City, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts. In her early years, she spent summers with her maternal grandparents, James and Lucy Sharp on Herrington Lake near Lexington, Kentucky and for many years attended Camp Greystone in North Carolina, which she adored. Devon loved the Kentucky Derby which she attended many times and was an avid basketball fan. She loved the University of Kentucky Wildcats, as well as the Denver Nuggets, and the New York Knicks where she was a season ticket holder for over 30 years.
She lived and worked in Austin, Denver, and New York City. She was an artist (https://www.devondikeou.com/career), whose retrospective, Mid-Career Smear, was in the Colorado Building, a contemporary art collector (https://dikeoucollection.org/about), and editor/publisher of zingmagazine (https://zingmagazine.com). Most recently, in 2024-2025, Devon was awarded the prestigious Jules Guerin Rome Prize by the American Academy in Rome, where her 10-month residency produced “The Inconspicuous”. Her most interesting high school job was being a senatorial page for Gary Hart where she worked the autopen. One of her favorite early jobs was working for Collins & Milazzo, the fab curatorial team of the ’80s and ’90s; and she daydreamed at Tibor de Nagy Gallery in ’85, which shaped her life as an artist, curator, editor/publisher/writer/critic, and finally a collector. She was a member of the University Club, and a past board member of the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (“MCA”) where she was on the Architectural Committee, and flew around the world interviewing architects. Eventually, the committee chose Devon’s favorite architect: Sir David Adjaye.
Devon was preceded in death by her mother Lucy Sharp Dikeou and is survived by her husband, Fernando Troya, her father John Dikeou (Andrea), brother Pany Dikeou (Riisa), niece and god daughter Remy Dikeou, niece Lucy Dikeou (Drew Barvir), niece Chloe Dikeou Rassenfoss (Joe), nephew Pete Dikeou (Claudia), great-nephew Bode Dikeou, uncle Deno Dikeou (Pamela), uncle Brown Sharp, aunt Sally Sharp, and numerous cousins.
