Declan Geoffrey Dillman

Declan Dillman passed away suddenly on January 7, 2024 at the age of 50. He was born Feb 27, 1973 in Boulder, Colorado to parents Steve Dillman and Linda (Dillman) Spurlock. Sister, Vanessa, joined the family in 1975.

He attended schools in Longmont, Colorado, graduating from Skyline High School and additional education at Arapahoe Community College in criminal justice.

Declan enlisted in the Navy for 4 years when he was 19 years old and was the recipient of the prestigious Navy League Award at graduation from boot camp. He was part of the original crew on the John Paul Jones navy destroyer as Damage Control Fireman and was proud of being a “Plank Owner”.

After four years in the Navy, Declan was in the National Guard for 17 years in the Field Artillery Unit and Military Police with several deployments for active Army service including Iraq and Haiti. He retired from military service as a Staff Sergeant after 21 years of accumulated military time.

His death cut short his career with University of Denver as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician.  He had varied career experiences including working at Exempla Hospital as a Mechanical Repair Technician and also at Allied Universal as an armed Security Guard. Earlier in his career he worked as a lighting technician for 10 years at Vance Brand Auditorium in Longmont.

Volunteer activities included 15 years with the Boulder Emergency Squad.

Most people know of Declan’s love of cars - especially his vintage Dodge Dart, and taking his dog, Fiona, for rides with him in his car. Motorcycles were another passion and his dream of a long-distance motorcycle trip came true last summer with a ride to Tennessee, where he had hoped to move one day.

Declan loved his extended family that included many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins and always looked forward to family gatherings.

Declan was preceded in death by his father, Steve Dillman. He is survived, and missed by his mother, Linda Spurlock; sister, Vanessa Green and her husband Jason; nephews Elijah and Jacob, and niece Nora.
