Debra Dinkel was born on February 1, 1962, to Raquel and Wayne Hawkes. She was a spirited addition to the family. The youngest of two kids, she joined her older brother Dewayne and the two led an adventurous life. Of course if you asked either of them, Debras was always innocent, even if it was her idea...
Debra attended Gateway High School where she excelled in classes and socialization. Upon her graduation she then attended the University of Northern Colorado for two years before branching off into the world. It was around that time that she met her loving husband, Greg, who then had three children, Mallory, Eric and Ryan. Along with her love of family and friends, Debra was known for lighting up any room she went into. She was the best storyteller. When they went to England for Greg’s work Debra would send lengthy emails painting such vivid imagery and taking you on her adventures of living across the pond. Anyone lucky enough to be on the email chain anxiously awaited her journeys.
Of her many attributes, aside from her humor and care for others, was her over the top celebrations. Debra had a special knack for throwing elaborate parties tailored to any occasion ranging from luaus, to ninja turtles birthdays and even a hoedown. She was on top of every detail down to the custom Hershey's label, for graduating family members. Outside of her great party abilities, she volunteered and was active throughout her children’s lives, assisting with pep-rallies, school functions and sports activities (some even thought she was a teacher.) She was always in the stands cheering them on. She was even recognized as parent of the year twice - from 2001-2002 & 2005-2006. That dedication and support also transcended into the church where she was heavily involved with volunteering, organizing and leading the church grief group.
As her children grew, she was able to gain a new title in life, Grandma. First was Isabella, followed by Charlotte, Peyton, Nora and Wyatt. Like any good grandparent, her grandchildren were very spoiled. Grandma (Yaya) worked to fulfill all their wishes in a big way. She was an avid caretaker in her grandchildren’s life and I’m sure they will all cherish the lessons she taught them and the fun she brought along the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ricci and Wayne, who we know were awaiting her arrival into heaven. She is survived by her husband, Greg Dinkel, children; daughter Mallory Dinkel; sons Eric and Ryan Dinkel, their spouses Sam and Britanie, along with her blessings of grandchildren, Isabella, Charlotte, Peyton, Nora and Wyatt; her Brother Dewayne Hawkes (wife Jenny), her many nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
