Dean was born in Englewood, Colorado to Richard W. and Helen M. Northrup on August 18, 1945. Dean was raised with 2 brothers and 1 sister: Dick, Arnold and Judy. Dick passed in March of 2020, daughter Kim and Hannah live in Englewood, Co. Arnold is married to Marsha, they currently live in Genoa, Illinois with all their children and grandchildren. Judy is married to Norm Nyberg, they currently live in Buena Vista, Colorado with all her children and grandchildren.
Dean was married to Sharon Anderson from Sept 1965 to Sept 1975 and had two sons: Michael Wayne and Warren Christy Northrup.
In May of 1986 - Dean married Mary Nixon and was married until Mary’s death in March of 2017. (31 loving years).
Dean’s oldest son, Mike and wife Shelly, their family consists of 4 children and 5 grandchildren: Brandin and Sara Chacon, Kayla, Luke and Meila Northrup. Frank and Lauren, Kason, Tatum and Frank Jr. Volkmer and Mackynzie Northrup.
Dean’s youngest son, Warren and wife Jacque, their family consists of 2 children: Garrett, Morgan and Zach (son-in-law).
We all will miss him!
Dean was surrounded by his family when he passed away on October 15th, 2021 at UC Health Hospital in Highlands Ranch, CO. He suffered from COPD and Emphysema.
Dean grew up in Littleton, CO. Dean learned at a young age the value of hard work and core family values. He attended Littleton High School and graduated in 1963.
In 1965, Dean was hired by Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department and excelled at everything he was assigned too. Dean served his community as a patrolman and a detective in homicide, arson and fraud. Dean received countless awards and certifications and, traveled all over the US getting the lawbreakers. Dean truly loved his job and gave 100% - making every minute count. Dad always said – “my job was to solve the case” and he always did! In 1996, Dean retired after 32 years of dedicated service at the age of 52. He did it right – he enjoyed life!
Dean loved living in Colorado and visiting all his family that resided in Kansas and Illinois and Mary’s family in Seattle.
In his spare time Dean enjoyed the outdoors - fishing, camping, boating, RVing and relaxing. Dean’s hobbies were leather and wood working, baseball card collecting and was an exceptional oil painter.
Dean was a great “father, husband and grandfather”. He will be truly missed and will always be in our thoughts and prayers!
