David John Stover, 89

Dave was born on October 25, 1935, in Dallas, Texas to Rolland S. Stover and Kathryn Edna Wilder Stover. Dave grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1953. Dave attended both Iowa State University and Drake University. In between enrollment at the two universities, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps from December 1957 through September 1960 as a paratrooper. Dave graduated from Drake University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics degree.

While at Drake, he met and married Barbara Nelson in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1962. During their 63 years of marriage, they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, Beatrice, Nebraska and Littleton, Colorado. Dave’s primary occupation was that of a consultant, time management studies primarily. His work experience was varied because he worked with various companies and industries.

Dave is survived by three children: daughter Tracy Stam (Joe) of Parker Colorado, sons John Stover (Lily) of Fort Myers, Florida and Phillip Stover (Amanda) of Des Moines, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Chayse Basinger (Cory), Austin Stover (Lindsay), Ali McGuinness (Mitch), Taylor Stam (Lauren), Morgan Stam Caffee (Kylan), Hunter Stover, Ryan Stover, Jackson Stover, Caleb Stover and Joey Stover; and nine great-grandchildren: Adelynn Stover, Lawson Stover, Logan McGuinness, Nolan McGuinness, Harper Stam, Easton Stam, Brooks Basinger, Steele Basinger and Kaladin Caffee ; brother Mark Stover and sister Julie Stevens and loved nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his brother K. Don Stover and his parents. Loving family and friends brought him much joy.

His hobbies and interests were many and varied.

  • Painting: acrylic painting now.
  • Writing: Dave took various classes and workshops on writing and belonged to various writing groups. He wrote short stories, poetry, screenplays and worked on a novel.
  • Photography.
  • Politics.
  • Woodworking
  • Documentaries on tv: Astronomy, History, Art and Artists.
  • Travel: He and Barb traveled to France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Germany, the Mediterranean area, Norway, Alaska and other parts of the United States.
  • Music: Classical music. He was a member of our Holy Trinity Lutheran Church choir for many years. He also belonged to the Cherry Creek Chorale.
  • He loved to learn and was very curious.
  • Cheetos, M&Ms, Oreos and our dog Dewey always brought smiles to his face!

Dave was a very interesting man, friendly, determined, helpful and caring with a great sense of humor. Four years ago, he had a serious stroke which affected primarily his left side. He was left-handed. The prognosis was serious, but Dave was very determined in his recovery. Dave passed away suddenly on August 28, 2025, after a nice family dinner with Barb and Tracy at the Gardens in Columbine, Littleton, CO.

A memorial service celebrating Dave’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Littleton, CO. Pastor David Risendal officiating.
