Lakewood

David Allen Jones passed away the day after Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, following a three-year battle with cancer at the age of 73.

Davy / Dave was born on August 15, 1951 in Norfork, Nebraska to Alverne Jones and Edith Benjamin. The family moved to Wheatridge, Colorado when Davy was an toddler and he was the eldest of his siblings (Doug, Kristee, Derrick now deceased, and Janie). He attended Wheatridge High School before enlisting in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict, achieving the rank of sergeant and receiving the bronze star for his accomplishments during 1971.

The Jones family was well-known in Wheatridge and the surrounding area and Davy was an integral part of the family business Mountain Disposal, later Viking Fore Disposal. Dave also worked in a packing house, and as a street sweeper, before returning to commercial driving/operating in his fifties and again in his sixties. Throughout, he was always a valued, reliable worker and demonstrated an incredible work ethic. He worked his entire life, never retiring.

Dave married Debra Sackett and Debby gave birth to Carie Jones on Dec 5, 1973. Although they later divorced, Dave never remarried and remained a loyal friend to Debby especially in the last months of her life in 2020. Dave was a dedicated father to Carie and an integral part of her family as grandfather and godfather to Carie's child David Gutierrez (32) and Carie and Clint Aplanalp's children Zane (19) and Jay (17). He was always available on a moment's notice to babysit and drove his grandkids to many of their practices and games, in addition to being a regular spectator. He also took care of David whenever needed and took him out in the community every Sunday.

Dave was preceded in death by his nephews Ryan Zelenka (Janie) and Christopher Jones (Doug), brother Derrick, parents Edyee and Al, and each of his natural aunts and uncles. He is survived by his daughter Carie and her family, (husband Clinton, grandchildren David, Zane and Jay) as well as his siblings and their families; Doug Jones (Brian, Haley), Kristee Nyznyk (husband Larry, Talai Yacovetta and her family, Nykola and his family, Krystion), and Janie Zelenka (husband George, Lyndee), and his niece Vanessa Acree (daughter of Derrick) and her family, and several cousins and their families.

Viewing will take place at Horan & McConaty in Lakewood Colorado on Saturday, November 23 at 10 am. Military service with honors will take place for family and close friends at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:30 pm.
