David ""Dave"" L. Hornberger

September 29, 1937 — June 19, 2020

David (Dave) Leon Hornberger, age 82, of Ocala, Florida, died in Westminster, Colorado on June 19, 2020. He was born on September 29, 1937 in Freeport, Illinois; the son of Grant and Vera Rose Hornberger.

He married Lois Marlene McClanahan on 8/17/56, and she resides in Tulsa, OK. He married Constance (Connie) Huseman on 5/26/90 and she resided with him in Ocala, FL where they relocated in 2007.

Dave is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Rhonda (Jack) Homra, Kent (Sandra) Hornberger, Eric Huseman and Renee Huseman; grandchildren, Dustin Zeis, Jenifer (Woody) Woodell, Sara Kiss (Sean Ross), Kyle (Kelsey) Valdez, Vince Huseman (Cara Thornburg), Alexander (Cierra) Shepherd and Kelby Huseman (Hannah Giffey); great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Mickels, Paul, Taylor and Benjamin Cline, Addyson Woodell, Andrea, Josephine, Grace and Sophia Hornberger, Lucas Ross and Eva Crawford; sister, Carol (Tom) Thomas and sister-in-law, Velda Hornberger.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brenda Shepherd and brother, Mylan Hornberger.

He attended Rockford, IL and East High School in Denver as well as Red Rocks College.

Dave served in the Navy aboard the carrier Shangri-la and was based out of San Diego. Following the Navy, he became a fireman with the City of Dayton, Ohio, prior to moving back to Denver. He also worked for Public Service prior to the Denver Fire Department where he retired as an Engineer in March, 1990.

He was active in the Retired Firefighters Association of Denver and volunteered with the DFD Federal Credit Union on the Supervisory Committee. He enjoyed golf and headed up the Retired Firefighters Golf Group for several years.

He was the best husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa and will be sorely missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 1pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, CO 80229. Please know that due to Covid restrictions, we are limited to 100 people in our chapel and encourage guests to wear a mask.
