David N. Holen (Mr. Stupendous)

December 21, 1946 — November 30, 2024

Lakewood

David Neil Holen was born on December 21, 1946, in Minot, North Dakota, to Bessie and Clayton Holen, the third of three children. He died at home in Lakewood, Colorado, on November 30, 2024, after a long battle against cancer.

He grew up attending school in Minot and graduated from the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton ND as an architectural draftsman. He moved to Denver where he spent the rest of his life. Nancy Henning and David shared their lives together for more than forty years.

David's interests included friends, music, and God. Anyone who met David became a friend and whenever asked how he was,"stupendous" was always his response, even to the last days of his life. He was a lifelong Christian and an active member for years at Christ The King and Atonement Lutheran Churches. He loved children even though he had none of his own.

For more than ten years David sang with the Denver/Colorado Symphony Chorus and had the opportunity to travel to Europe several times and perform with the chorus even at Notre Dame in Paris. He made a number of life-long friends while singing in the chorus. Bach and Mozart are the best elixir for the soul this side of the divine. (GM)

He loved riding motorcycles, reading books, and he was an avid baseball fan -- David and Nancy had season tickets to the Colorado Rockies for many years. At age 20, David learned he had a hearing loss when he failed his draft physical. He lived with hearing aids until he received Cochlear Implants which gave him his hearing back and changed his life! He also worked at Cochlear Americas for eight years. He made more lifelong friends just because he lost his hearing.

David and Nancy's travels, often with friends, took them to southeast Asia from Singapore to Beijing, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, and all 50 states.

David is survived by Nancy, sister Sharon (Larry) Healton, niece Alynn (Noel ) Terry, nephew Les (Melinda) Healton, niece Michelle Lorentzen and several great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janice Lorentzen, and niece Lisa Lorentzen.

At his request, David's ashes will be spread alongside a favorite motorcycle road in Coal Creek Canyon. He was loved and will be missed.
