Life blessed us with this time to cherish, love and honor a husband, a father and a friend, David Lee Garland. David's journey began on April 6, 1929. He grew up in a loving family and sought out adventures and life lessons that helped create the amazing man he came to be. Hunting and fishing with his father was the high point of his youth. David was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1951, and was honorably discharged in December, 1952. David graduated Hillsdale College and Wayne State University Law in 1956, and sat for and passed the bar exam that year. David then began his career as a lawyer in Flint, Michigan, and wound down his career as Vice President and Legal Counsel for First Interstate Bank in Denver, which later became Wells Fargo Bank In 1958, he married Pattie and began a new chapter in his life's journey. In 1961 he celebrated the birth of their first child, Gregory Scott Garland. Soon after in 1962, his daughter was born, Theresa Lynn Garland-Ferguson. Together with his wife, he raised his children to respect others, do their best, and strive for happiness. After retiring from being a corporate attorney, he continued to give to the community. He taught classes at American Institute of Banking, and volunteered along with Pattie for more than 20 years in the Meals on Wheels program to provide nutrition to seniors who were shut-ins. He remained active all of his life until age and infirmity took from him his strength, and dementia hobbled his brilliant mind. But through all this, he remained steadfast, loving, kind and generous. When David met the fork in the road, he always took the road less traveled.
