In Loving Memory of David Draughon
David peacefully passed away in his favorite seat at his daughter's home in Commerce City, CO. He and his wife of 55 years, Christy, were visiting family and had planned to finalize their healthcare and life arrangements before relocating to their new home in Oxford, MS. Although they didn’t reach that goal, the silver lining is that David spent his final days surrounded by his children and grandchildren. True to his nature, he approached his passing quietly, leaving this world during a peaceful afternoon nap.
Early Life and Family Background
Born in Meridian, MS, September 16th, 1950, to Thomas and Minnie Mae Draughon, David had five brothers: Thomas, Richard, Jackie, and Johnny, who preceded him in death, he is survived by his youngest brother, Donald. Throughout his childhood, he enjoyed playing sports and forming lifelong friendships, many of which he cherished throughout his life.
A Life Well Lived
David spent the first part of his life in Mississippi before relocating to Thornton, Colorado, in 1986 with Christy and their three children—Greg, Shelley, and Ben. He would go on to spend the rest of his life in Colorado. After retiring from his novelty sales job, he worked with Shelley, Heath, and Ben at Solar Vision Inc. until he experienced a significant stroke in 2017. Following his recovery and Christy’s retirement, they devoted their time to traveling across the United States, often returning to Mississippi. Just last fall, he realized a dream from his bucket list by enjoying an entire football season in Oxford, MS, attending numerous games and participating in every Ole Miss tailgate.
A Proud Paw Paw
David was the best Paw Paw anyone could ask for, blessed with seven grandchildren. He took immense pride in his eldest grandchild, nineteen-year-old Addie attending the University of Mississippi. Just a day before his passing, he had the joy of visiting his five-year-old granddaughter, Amelia, and three-year-old grandson, Avin. He also attended a track meet for his twelve-year-old grandson, David, where he was delighted to see his other three grandchildren: ten-year-old Lilie, seven-year-old Benji, and six-year-old Charlotte who just celebrated her birthday with Paw Paw the prior Saturday. David is also survived by his wonderful daughters-in-law, Bri and Julie, and son-in-law, Heath.
A Faithful Man
As a devoted Christian, David often found himself asked to offer a blessing or lead a public prayer. He would conclude each prayer with the phrase, “in a positive Christian way.” His presence will be deeply missed; however, we take comfort in knowing he would encourage everyone to approach life “in a positive Christian way,” and we will honor his memory by doing just that.
