David Forest Dorn

David Forest Dorn died September 25th, 2014 at home in Denver, CO after 90 wonderful years. Lovingly known as ""Papa Bear,"" he was surrounded and honored by his immediate family as he departed peacefully. He is survived by his brothers, Dick and John, and his children, Brooks, Forest, and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julieanne, his eldest son, Bill, and his second wife, Catherine. He leaves behind numerous devoted friends and a large extended family including: 2 stepchildren, 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. David was born May 8th, 1924 in Bradford, PA, one of six children of Forest and Ruth Dorn. He attended Phillips Andover Academy and Yale University before entering into service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army. David spent his professional career continuing the pioneering legacy of his father and grandfather in the oil and gas industry, as a leader of Forest Oil Corporation. He was an avid outdoor sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. Woodworking was his passion and creative talent. David had a profound impact on our understanding of genetic diseases through his support of Massachusetts General Hospital's ongoing research of Huntington's disease. He was a lifelong member of the Republican National Committee, served on the board of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and was a past president of both the Shikar Safari Club and the National Petroleum Council. Papa Bear's greatest achievement was the ties he bound within his close-knit family. He will be fondly remembered for his generous heart, witty humor, and colorful story telling, Services will be held Saturday September 27th at 3:30 pm at the Denver Country Club.
