David Clyde Archer, 70, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on February 1, 2023, surrounded by immediate family.
Son of Eugene Archer and Dolores Fabrizio, he was born on December 19, 1952 in Denver, Colorado. Growing up the youngest of three boys in the Berkeley neighborhood of North Denver, David enjoyed life outdoors - sneaking into the neighboring golf course at night as a kid, going on weekend camping trips, playing baseball and basketball and assisting his father and brothers in the family construction business. A standout athlete at Holy Family High School, class of 1971, he enlisted in the Colorado National Guard while graduating from Colorado State University with a bachelor of science in Forestry in 1976. David served on the Denver Fire Department for 36 years, first as a career firefighter at Stations 26 and 17 and then in his final twelve years with the city Fire Prevention Bureau until his retirement in 2014.
David loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He hiked nearly all of Colorado’s Fourteeners, he often joined friends on extended mountain biking trips and played with them in golf tournaments, and took his family on countless camping, hiking, skiing and cabin stay trips as well as trips out east to visit his wife’s family. God gave David a craftsman’s hands and the patience of Job - he could build, fix and remodel just about anything, not only in his own homes but also in his mother’s, father-in-law’s and children’s.
David was the anchor of his family. United in 40 years of marriage to Peggy, they raised three children: Katie, Eric and Gina. He was grandfather to Anthony and Noah. He is also survived by his brothers Raymond (Marlene) and George (Mona); father-in-law Clair Reitz; sister-in-law Carol Fischer (Mark), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law.
David was a kind and humble son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend whose generosity of spirit made an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
