Darrell Dean Laschanzky, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in Englewood, Colorado. He was born on April 6, 1931, in Fairmont, Nebraska, to William and Laverna Laschanzky.
Darrell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne “Jody” Laschanzky. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family.
He is lovingly remembered by his four children: Becky Laschanzky; Brian Laschanzky and his spouse, Debra; Heidi Kunzek and her spouse, Artur; and Mark Laschanzky and his spouse, Kendra. Darrell also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Max Kunzek and Maddux Laschanzky, who brought him tremendous joy.
Darrell proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War, earning top security clearance as a cryptographer. While stationed at Lowry Air Force Base, he played baseball and basketball on the base teams. During his service, he also sang with the USAF Security Service “Local Airs” men's vocal group, performing around the world.
Following his military service, Darrell attended the University of Colorado Boulder through the GI Bill and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Through dedication, integrity, and hard work, he built a successful career, rising from humble beginnings to become Vice President of Pioneer General Insurance.
Darrell was an avid fan of Colorado Buffaloes football and proudly held season tickets for more than 50 years. He was also a longtime season ticket holder for the Colorado Rockies. Darrell and Jody shared many joyful days and evenings together attending games and celebrating their love of Colorado sports.
Darrell was a devoted member of Littleton United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, where he formed lasting friendships through faith, music, and service. He especially cherished singing alongside his beloved wife, Jody, in both the Jubilation and Chancel Choirs. He and Jody especially enjoyed singing and harmonizing together, sharing a love of music that brought them joy throughout their lives. Highlights of his musical life included performing with Jody and the LUMC Chancel Choir at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1990 and at the Colorado Rockies Opening Day celebration.
Darrell will be remembered for his kindness, steadfast faith, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy of service, generosity, and love will live on in all who knew him.
