Daniel Doyle Scharf, age 66, passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2023, while enjoying the Colorado wilderness. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on November 16th, 1956, and was graduate of University of Nebraska at Kearney where he earned a degree in Accounting & Management and soon after became a Certified Public Accountant. Dan started his career working for the state of Nebraska as a CPA. He moved to Boulder, CO in 1982 and continued a varied yet accounting focused career in Colorado from 1982 to 1999, in Minnesota from 1999 to 2012, and returning to Colorado in 2012 until his retirement in 2022. He was admired by his professional colleagues for his leadership, problem solving skills, integrity, and hard work.
Daniel, known to all by Dan, was an adventurer at heart and loved to travel throughout Colorado and the surrounding areas enjoying all the outdoor activities the state had to offer. Dan was a true do-it-yourselfer and was never afraid to tackle any project. Dan loved dogs and could always be seen with his dog, Charlie. Some of Dan’s hobbies included family time with his children, following his favorite sport teams, gardening, ATV rides, grilling, camping, fishing and exploring new places.
He is survived by his son, Kyle (33), his daughter-in-law, Kelsey and daughter, Amy(28). He is also survived by his two sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Kathleen Scharf, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be private for immediate family. An open-house Celebration of Life for Dan’s friends and family will be hosted by his children October 7th from 3-6pm at Old Chicago on 6th and Simms.
Flowers can be sent to Horan & McConaty, 80th and Wadsworth, Arvada, CO. Donations may be made to Colorado Search & Rescue Fund or similar in Dan’s memory.
