Daniel B. Dalton, dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and Amigo passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in Arvada, Colorado. He was born on May 26, 1953, in Long Beach, California, to the late Frank and Jackie Dalton.
Dan grew up in Westminster, California, and later graduated as a Registered Nurse from College of the Desert. Nursing was more than a profession to Dan; it was his life's calling. He dedicated himself to caring for others throughout a long and rewarding career in healthcare.
In 1979, while working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Dan met the love of his life, Carol. They were married on June 14, 1980, and shared nearly 46 years of marriage filled with love, adventure, and devotion to family.
Dan spent some of his nursing career at the Palm Springs’s only hospital (Desert Hospital), where he cared for countless patients from all walks of life. His compassion and professionalism earned him the trust of many, including several notable figures such as Frank Sinatra, Betty and Gerald Ford, and Bob Hope. He worked at Porter hospital in Denver, CO for 25 years before retiring in late October 2020.
Dan had a deep love for travel and adventure. Over the years, he enjoyed trips to Alaska, Caribbean cruises, and countless family camping excursions and road trips. One of his greatest joys came in August 2021, when he and Carol purchased their home in Matapalo, Costa Rica. He cherished the beauty of Costa Rica, its wildlife, and the beautiful friendships he made with his Tico neighbors. He especially loved tending to his fruit trees with his infamous machete and walking the property, proudly surveying his tropical paradise.
Dan was never one to let circumstances define him. After a quintuple bypass in 2000, he was told he had only five years to live, but he went on to enjoy more than twenty additional years filled with travel, adventure, and precious time with loved ones. In 2025, after returning from four wonderful months in Costa Rica, he was diagnosed with Stage IV glioblastoma. He met this challenge the same way he met every obstacle in life, with determination, grit, and optimism. Despite his diagnosis, Dan made it back to Costa Rica twice more and celebrated cherished moments with family, including a memorable family trip in November. His courage remained unwavering until the very end.
Dan passed his love of people and exploration on to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Dalton; his daughter, Sarah Barnes; his son, Brandon Dalton, and daughter-in-law, Krystle Dalton; his cherished grandchildren, Mason Barnes, Kaleb Barnes, and Aubry Barnes; his brother, Patrick Dalton; his niece, Jenny Bass, and her husband, Adam Bass; his nephew, Scott Dalton; his great-niece, Isabel Dalton; and his beloved cat, Cosmo.
Dan will be remembered as a man who lived life on his own terms, unapologetically himself, and always willing to stand up for what he believed in. He loved people and conversation and was a master storyteller who could captivate an audience for hours. Whether sharing a family memory, a nursing tale, or one of his many adventures, Dan always had a story to tell. He would have you laughing so hard, your stomach ached. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the family and friends who will carry his memory forward.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 7577 W. 80th Ave., Arvada, CO 80003.
